Those Magnificent Mutts and their flying machine

The Mad Dogs

Mad Dog 2 - Richard

In this picture, Richard is wearing his more usual flying attire before jumping in this aircraft and using the two 20 mm Hispano-Suiza 404/408 cannons to good effect in a ground strafing run on some undesirables.

A rare photo of Richard, taken by an unsuspecting passenger that later pulled the canopy release handle and took to the silk.  Richard is partial to some aerobatics and really loves flying the dog, as do we all.  Here he is, where he is happiest!

Mad Dog 3 - Ridders

Ridders can barely pilot an aircraft, but he can land in treetops which the others haven't tried yet.  Here he is pictured undergoing some training with Charlie Mouse.

Ridders has AOPA Aeros, is formation trained both basic and intermediate, has IMC, Night and is a Class Rating Instructor.  This still doesnt prevent him from falling out of loops occasionally!  Watch out for nutters in the night in formation whilst inverted, in cloud under instruction. This year he wants to get his tailwheel...probably,  so he can become a Pilot in "Drag"(er)

Ridders deals with all the boring paperwork, Finance and does the website.

Mad Dog 4 - Caz

Caz mostly fly's with Ridders and sometimes when planning to go upside down, she even sports a flying suit to secure her "in flight Minstrel" chocolate supplies.  Shortly after this photograph was taken, she punched the paparazzi, trashed his camera and was seen legging it, screaming wildly.  This lady carries an Irish Government health warning, for good reason. Despite her size, she can bite your ankles so we advise you steer well clear. Whilst not having a PPL just yet, you have been warned, its only a matter of time.

Never, ever, ever mention the words "Harvard" or "T6" to this woman.  Too late:

Mad Dog 5 - Malcolm

MD5 left school with the intention of becoming an airline pilot but luckily realised in time that a career in accountancy promised so much more. However, in order to prove something to somebody, decided relatively late on in life that learning to fly at Goodwood would be a good idea in order to ensure there would be no subsequent problems with Inheritance Tax. The majority of hours have been accumulated on Pipers, with some time on TB20s, and an interesting session in the Extra 300 with ex-Red Arrow Andy Cubin. Most flying is done in the delightful company of MD7, who has eventually been persuaded that flying doesn't get much better than in a Bulldog. The photo will not help for recognition purposes, eg autographs, as MD5 is seen smiling.

Mad Dog 6 - Alex

Alex joined the group in July 2008, after we interviewed him for several hours but couldn't understand a bloody word he said.  We think he mentioned something about  "coming from oop North" and "whippet".  Rumour has it, he has a licence to fly helicopters, and has even flown a spitfire. Anyone that claims to have flown a spitfire is all right in our books, so we let him off the Helicopter bit and allowed him in anyway. We just wish he would shut up about the soddin spitfire.  Here he is pictured in his bondage trying to pick up a passing pilot whilst polishing the aircraft with his armpit.

Mad Dog 7 - Claire

After getting her PPL in 1999 on the Traumahawk,  she has mostly flown Pipers in the last few years (Warrior, Cherokee, Arrow and Dakota....and mostly the latter two) with a smattering of TB20.

Claire loves longer distance flying and touring and is hoping to do a lot more of that. Soon she will be looking to aerobat the dog. She already likes flying upside down - (in Australia!) she once flew a Cessna once around Philip harbour & Melbourne - a very memorable flight!

Watch out for Claire adding yet more types to her logbook and doing more instrument flying.

She was introduced to Malcolm in late 2001 and they have been flying buddies ever since.

Mad Dog 8 - Doug

Our latest member of the group is Doug (AKA Muttley), who actually bought Alex's share.  Although Alex is still in our group, as we didn't want him to leave. (well we tried, but he wouldn't go).

Muttley flies big things that fly at 32,000 feet, and has now mastered flaring the bulldog below 20 feet, his normal cockpit landing altitude, so has been awarded a new medal.

Still Smiling, but skint. Can you lend us a fiver?

Honorary Mutt - Andy

The founding member of the group, our Honaary Mutt Andy R sold his share in July 2009 and has gone on to gain his CPL and CRI so can often be seen sitting alongside other pilots in a variety of aircraft.

About Us

We were originally  a group of three pilots that purchased XX554 in 2007.

In 2008 MD1 & 2 decided to sell 50% of their share holding and we have now expanded the group to a total of 6

In July 2010 we increased the group to 7.

There are currently no shares available.
